In the midst of these challenges, Centre Gateka emerges as a haven of hope in Bujumbura-Gatumba, providing a lifeline for those who have lost parental care.This is what we are doing.

Elvis is the founder of Centre Gateka, a non-profit organization providing assistance to children in Burundi. Elvis is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children who have experienced hardship. Having witnessed the challenges faced by orphaned and disadvantaged children in Burundi firsthand, he felt compelled to create a haven of support and opportunity for them.
My name is Faustine. My brother Eric, Audreille, and I experienced difficult childhoods. We grew up without a father, and our mother faced challenges providing for us. Homelessness became a reality for our family. However, the Gateka Center provided us with a safe and supportive environment. The center has become like a second home, offering us not only shelter but also a loving community of friends and the feeling of belonging to a family. Thanks to the Gateka Center, we were able to return to school and acquire essential skills like reading and writing

Since joining the center, my life has taken a positive turn. I now have the opportunity to learn new things every day and participate in enjoyable activities. Hello, my name is Vanessa. I was abandoned by my mother at the age of one and raised by my father. Sadly, he passed away when I was around ten, and I was subsequently taken in by a family member. Life became challenging, and I was unfortunately forced to drop out of school. However, my life took a positive turn when I encountered the Gateka Center. They provided me with the opportunity to return to school, paving the way for a brighter future. Here, I receive a quality education and am provided with nutritious meals every day. The supportive staff and mentors consistently encourage us to pursue our dreams and strive for our full potential. I am deeply grateful for all the support and opportunities the center offers me."
